Business Professor Earns Public Administration Educator of the Year Award

Jack Pinkowski, Ph.D.

The South Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration has named Jack Pinkowski, Ph.D., associate professor of public administration in the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, as their Public Administration Educator of the Year. The awards reception will take place on June 7, 2013, at Jungle Island in Miami.

Long before Jack Pinkowski earned his degree in public administration, he held a deep-seated belief in making a difference in the communities in which he lived. During his 25-year career as a successful business entrepreneur, Pinkowski was a volunteer community leader in local governments and nonprofit agencies.

Pinkowski is listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America, Strathmore’s Who’s Who, and Academic Keys Who’s Who in Business Higher Education. He has received many honors and awards for public service and leadership and is frequently called by local governments in planning their economic development strategy or emergency management and disaster plans. In 2008-2009 Professor Pinkowski was a Fulbright Scholar in residence in the Republic of Ireland where he consulted the Dublin City Council on economic development opportunities for immigrant communities. At the Huizenga Business School he has responsibility on the Deans Academic Council for the Public Administration and M.S. in Real Estate Development programs.

His published works include the Disaster Management Handbook, the Handbook of Globalization, Governance, and Public Administration and the Homeland Security Handbook. He is the founding director of the NSU Institute of Government and Public Policy, a vehicle that allows the university to serve the community by lending business, management, and cross-discipline expertise to solve problems and conduct research on public sector issues.

During 2005, Pinkowski served in a critical leadership role in VisionBROWARD, a strategic community visioning process that included private business leaders, the educational community, local governments, and community organizations to chart the future course of Broward County.

Pinkowski’s successful entrepreneurial career has included owning and operating an import-export business; a light-manufacturing furniture enterprise; and a charter boat operation and sailing-instruction school in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and managing a wholesale distribution network across the United States and the Caribbean.
