Top Undergraduate Students Inducted into Alpha Chi National Honor Society

More than 65 NSU undergraduate students have been inducted into the Alpha Chi national honor society for the 2012–2013 academic year. Alpha Chi recognizes the top 10 percent of juniors and seniors in each undergraduate major. To celebrate these students’ academic achievements, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences hosted an induction ceremony and reception at NSU on Nov. 16.

The event featured welcoming remarks from NSU president George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., who was named an honorary Alpha Chi member last year for his contributions to the university and the community. Robin Sherman, Ph.D., associate professor and associate director of the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology, delivered the keynote address. Inducted into Alpha Chi as an NSU undergraduate student, Sherman serves as faculty adviser for the university’s chapter, along with Stephen Levitt, LL.M., associate professor at the college.

Current Alpha Chi officers Lauren Falkowitz, Marissa Hoffman, Lauren Llorente, and Yineth Sanchez then led the induction of new members. Each Alpha Chi inductee signed the society’s constitution and recited a pledge to uphold the principles of the society. Following the ceremony, the students joined friends, family members, faculty, and members of university leadership for a celebratory reception.

Since 1987, the Florida Eta chapter of Alpha Chi at NSU has inducted more than 2,000 undergraduate students to the national honor society.
