Office of Academic Services Honors Tutors with Fourth Annual Recognition Ceremony

In celebration of those who help NSU students succeed in their studies each day, the Office of Academic Services (OAS), part of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, hosted its fourth annual Tutor Recognition Ceremony on Apr. 11. The event recognizes the invaluable work of peer and professional tutors from OAS.


The Office of Academic Services hosted its fourth annual Tutor Recognition Ceremony on Apr. 11. The event recognizes those who help NSU students succeed in their studies each day.


Those receiving recognition during the ceremony included math/science tutors Alyssa Baet, Melanie Campbell, Ana Edwards, Maliha Fatima, Marissa Hoffman, Max Itkin, Lauren Llorente, Sarah McCourt, Lacrima Nemulescu, Du Nguyen, Emily Nguyen, Kenrick Raza, Trinidad Samaniego, and Dorothy Simmons.

The office also recognized its writing tutors: Louise Anderson, Mindy Blum, Jenny Brain, Marissa Cohen, Samantha Koeppel, Rita Martinez-Puccio, Micah Moreno, Ed Reardon, Karen Ryan, Emma Trelles, Virginia Wells, and Matthew Williamson.

Student tutors who are graduating from the college also received special recognition at the event. These individuals are Anam Ismail, who will be continuing on to law school, and Kodi Stevens, who will attend medical school.

On hand at the event to honor the tutors’ contributions were several friends and family members, as well as faculty members from the college, including Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences; Saul Sztam, Ed.D., assistant dean of college student affairs; Matthew He, Ph.D., director of the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology; and Shanti Bruce, Ph.D., associate professor in the college.

Also attending the ceremony were members of the OAS staff. This included Lisa Walther-Austin, director; Gail Levine, assistant director; Natalie Candela, coordinator of off-campus tutoring; Armante Labady, coordinator of testing; and Courtney Palmacci, coordinator of main-campus tutoring.

The Office of Academic Services, located in the Parker Building, suite 100, provides a variety of amenities to undergraduate students. In addition to tutoring sessions, these resources include individualized academic support, study areas and rooms for reserve, math DVDs for checkout, APA and MLA guidebooks, and more.
