NSU Undergraduate Students, Alumni Recognized at Spring Honors Banquet

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences hosted the annual Spring Honors Banquet on Apr. 19 at the Signature Grand in Davie, recognizing students in NSU’s Undergraduate Honors Program for their academic accomplishments and excellence. More than 400 people—including NSU alumni, administration, faculty, family members, and friends—joined the students in celebration. NSU Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr., J.D., was also in attendance at the banquet.

Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, opened the formal dinner and ceremony by acknowledging the students for their continued involvement at NSU and in the Honors Program.

Following dinner, two guest speakers addressed the audience: Gary Gershman, J.D., Ph.D., associate professor at the college, and biology major and graduating senior Lauren Llorente. Both provided words of encouragement and recognition for the program and students.

Next, more than 30 Honors Program alumni took the stage to discuss “where they are now.” Awards were then presented to the 2012–2013 Honors Advocates: Eduardo Carrera, Desiree Kennedy, Lauren Llorente, Michael Mateus, Biana Modilevsky, Tam Nguyen, Roshni Patel, and Neha Siddiqui.

The evening also included the award of Citations in General Honors to 27 students. These citations are granted to graduating seniors who have completed at least 21 Honors credits, earned a minimum 3.5 GPA, and maintained active participation in the Honors program and related events.

To conclude the ceremony, Rosenblum awarded Distinguished Honors Scholarships to 10 students, chosen by the college’s Honors faculty members. The award represents outstanding accomplishment and future potential in Honors scholarship and involvement. Additionally, biology major Roshni Patel received the new Alumni Student Scholarship, funded by college faculty, staff members, and Honors Program alumni contributors.
