CPS Faculty Member Provides Keynote Address at National Conference
Scott Poland, Ed.D., associate professor at NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies, and co-director of NSU’s Suicide and Violence Prevention Office, recently presented a keynote address during the 34th annual Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC) National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia.
More than 500 professionals gathered at the Hilton Atlanta in March to share their professional expertise. Poland’s address entitled, “Coping with Crisis in Schools and Communities: Lessons from the Front Lines for Prevention and Response,” was designed to help school personnel, and community agencies develop and enhance their ability to respond to critical incidents, safeguard children and build resiliency for children in today’s world. Participants learned effective strategies to prevent crises from occurring, and lessons from the front lines of numerous tragedies on how to best intervene immediately to help affected schools and communities.
Poland is a nationally-recognized expert on school crisis, youth violence, suicide intervention, self-injury, school safety, threat assessment, parenting and the delivery of psychological services in schools.
