Computer & Information Sciences School Hosts Christmas Luncheon for Douglas Gardens North Graduates

Eric S. Ackerman, Ph.D., interim dean at the Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences sponsored a holiday luncheon for computer class graduates at Douglas Gardens North on December 19.  Throughout 2012 Dean Ackerman and Sylvia Yepes, director of Finance & Administration at GSCIS, have provided computer classes in English and Spanish to the seniors at Douglas Gardens North.

With equipment purchased through a grant from MJHS Next Generation Foundation, the residents have been able to connect with family, learn to use the computer to access benefits information with Social Security and DCF, along with many other uses, including TV broadcasts from countries in which they once lived.  The program is expected to continue throughout 2013.

During the celebration, Douglas Gardens Senior Housing, Inc., management agent for the property, presented all volunteers with gift cards in recognition of their time with the senior residents.
