College of Osteopathic Medicine and Larkin Community Hospital receives approval for new Medical Residency Training Programs

Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) and Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) recently announced approval from the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Program and Trainee Review Committee to start several new osteopathic medical residency training programs.

The AOA granted the hospital approval to train medical residents in general surgery, dermatology, geriatric, medicine, rheumatology, gastroenterology, hematology/oncology, allergy & immunology, sleep medicine, infectious diseases, addiction medicine, geriatric psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry.

These programs are scheduled to start on July 1.

LCH currently offers AOA-approved residency programs in family medicine, internal medicine, psychiatry, and neuromusculoskeletal medicine. Approval was recently granted by the Accreditation Counsel for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for a new Psychiatry Residency Program. In addition, LCH was approved by the AOA for the following programs, which also start on Jul. 1: Hospice & Palliative Care Fellowship, Endocrinology Fellowship, Anesthesiology Residency, Neurology Residency, Ophthalmology Residency, Diagnostic Radiology Residency, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency and Sports Medicine Fellowship.

“The AOA’s approval of our medical residency programs at LCH will help train future doctors for Florida,” Joseph De Gaetano, D.O., M.S. Ed., associate dean for clinical curriculum and graduate medical education at NSU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine.
