Third year law student awarded Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association Foundation Scholarship

Law Student Nikeisha Williams

Nikeisha Williams, third year student at the Shepard Broad Law Center, has been awarded the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association Foundation Scholarship. The Wilkie D. Ferguson Bar Association’s mission is to advocate for the inclusion of people of color in every aspect of the legal profession; to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation of black law students; to foster and encourage professional excellence; to uphold the honor and integrity of the legal profession; and to protect the civil and human rights of all people.

The Black Lawyers Association provides financial assistance and mentoring to numerous law and undergraduate students. Additionally, the organization implements mentoring programs that include elementary and junior high school participants and oratorical contests for high school students. In September 2003, the Black Lawyers Association officially changed its name to the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association in recognition of the outstanding contributions Judge Ferguson made to our community. The Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. Bar Association remains committed to the ideals of equal access, equal opportunity and equal justice in the legal system.
