Woodard Named SSC Player of the Week; Varsity-4 Earns Boat of the Week

rp_primary_Untitled_1Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday, April 13. In addition, the conference also named the NSU Varsity-4 the SSC Boat of the Week.

Woodard began his week against Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday night, driving in five runs on two hits, including a triple off of the centerfield fence. Woodard continued his hot hitting against the No. 4 Florida Tech Panthers over the weekend, going 6-for-12 with four extra base hits. The highlight of his week was hitting two home runs in game two of the series, nearly adding a third home run after roping a double off of the yellow tubing on the top of the left field fence. Woodard is the third Shark to win the award, joining his teammates Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.).

In West Windsor, New Jersey at the Knecht Cup, the NSU V4 competed against some of the nation’s best crews across all divisions, including several top NCAA Division I boats. In the Petite Final, the Sharks recorded a time of 7:55.95 and took fifth place. NSU’s four boat was within a second of Duquesne and Army, but did top UCF by nearly three seconds.

The V4 boat was comprised of: coxswain Sarah Erickson (Sr., Sunrise, Fla.), Adrianna Rosario (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.), Kelsey Obringer(Sr., Port Republic, N.J.), Falon Irwin (So., Galloway, N.J.) and Kelly Scott (Sr., Hobe Sound, Fla.).

Woodard and the Sharks will be back in action Tuesday night, taking on the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic in the Battle of the Fish: Part IV. NSU’s rowers will defend their Sunshine State Conference title at the SSC Championship Regatta on April 24 in Sarasota, Florida
