Graduating senior basketball player Jasmine Wilkins (Miami) and Nova Southeastern head baseball coach Greg Brown were among the featured celebrities to take part in Cliff Floyd’s third annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament held this past weekend.

Wilkins, the reigning Sunshine State Conference women’s Player of the Year, became the first-ever female celebrity in the history of the event, and she and Brown joined many former Major League Baseball and National Football League stars on the lanes at SpareZ in Davie.

The annual extravaganza is put on by the Cliff Floyd Foundation, the charity of the former Major Leaguer, and the Tournament Chair is Nancy Olson, a faculty member at NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. The event supports RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities), and a portion of the proceeds help fund two Cliff Floyd Foundation scholarships, benefitting NSU Sport and Recreation Management students.

Wilkins enjoyed her involvement, taking pictures and signing commemorative event pins after showing off her extensive bowling skills.

“It was a really cool experience and an honor to be a part of it,” said Wilkins. “The (professional athletes) were very down-to-earth and were very willing to take pictures. NSU student-athletes should get involved with it in the future, it’s a great networking experience.”

In addition to Wilkins, Brown and Floyd, among the other celebrities participating Sunday were baseball Hall-of-Famer Andre Dawson and former Marlins stars Jeff Conine, Mike Lowell and Gary Sheffield.
