This week in Shark Athletics
Softball
NSU’s softball team begins the week by finishing their three-game conference series with Saint Leo on Apr. 10 at the AD Griffin Sports Complex at 1 p.m. The Sharks tamed the Lions in all four meetings last season, and one this season. But, SLU owns the all-time series edge at 21-18. The Sharks take four days off before hosting the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Apr. 15 at the AD Griffin Sports Complex beginning at 6 p.m. The Sharks swept the Sailfish in a doubleheader on Mar. 23 in West Palm Beach, Fla. NSU dominates the all-time series with a 33-10 record.
Baseball
NSU’s baseball team begins its week traveling to Melbourne, Fla. on Apr. 12 for a non-conference match up against Florida Tech at 3 p.m. The Sharks fell to FIT on Feb. 22, 6-5, while trailing in the all-time series against the Panthers, 18-7. NSU takes two days off before beginning a three-game conference series with the Saint Leo Lions in Saint Leo, Fla. on Friday, Apr. 15 and Saturday, Apr. 16. On Friday, the first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m., while the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Sharks swept the Lions last season, 3-0, while owning a 17-15 all-time series edge.
Women’s Tennis
NSU will be hosting the 2011 Sunshine State Conference Tournament in Orlando, Fla. beginning on Apr. 14. The women’s tennis team begins play in the SSS Tournament on that day. Times and seeds are to be determined at a later date.
Women’s Rowing
The women’s rowing team travels to Oak Ridge, Tenn. for the SIRA Championships. Last season, NSU took home a second place finish from both the Varsity-4 boat and the Varsity-4 Lightweight boat.
Track and Field
The track and field teams head to the University of Miami Meet in Miami, Fla. on Apr. 16. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Last season, senior Carlyle Thompson met the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard in the 400-meter hurdles. Thompson, who finished second in the event, ran a school-record time of 52.30.
