This Week in Shark Athletics

Softball
NSU’s softball team ends its three-game conference series against the Tampa Spartans at the University of Tampa softball field in Tampa, Fla., at 12 p.m. on March 13. The Spartans own a slight, 13-12, all-time series edge against the Sharks, but NSU defeated UT in two of the three meetings last season. The Sharks take a four day break before welcoming the Rollins Tars to the AD Griffin Sports Complex for a three-game conference series beginning on March 18. NSU will play the first game on Friday at 6 p.m. and then finish the series on Saturday, March 19 with the doubleheader’s first pitch scheduled at 1 p.m. NSU trails the Tars in the all-time series, 8-15, while falling to RC in all three games last season.

Women’s Tennis
The women’s tennis team will host the Division I George Washington Colonials at the NSU Tennis Complex on March 15 at 1 p.m. This marks the first time that GWU and NSU have met on the tennis court. The Sharks will take three days off before welcoming Florida Southern to the NSU Tennis Complex for a conference match on March 19 at 10 a.m. NSU trails in the all-time series against the Mocs, 6-5, while falling to FSC last season, 5-4, in Lakeland, Fla.

Baseball
NSU’s baseball team plays five games this week, beginning with a non-conference game against Franklin Pierce University on March 15 at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6 p.m. The Sharks own a 6-3 all-time series edge over the Ravens, while defeating FPU in all three meetings on the diamond last season. The next day, NSU will welcome the St. Michaels College Knights to the NSU Baseball Complex for a game at 6 p.m. The Sharks blew by the Knights last season, 17-0, at the NSU Baseball Complex on March 18, 2010 in the teams’ only meeting on the diamond. The Sharks break into conference play hosting the Florida Tech Panthers in a three game series on Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19 at the NSU Baseball Complex. On Friday, the first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the Saturday doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The Panthers edge the Sharks in the all-time series, 18-7, while NSU won two of the five meetings last season against FIT.

Track and Field
The men’s and women’s track and field team will participate in two meets this week. The Sharks will first travel to the Florida International University Invitational on March 17 in Miami, Fla. The FIU Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. This marks the first time the Sharks have competed in this meet. The next two days, March 18-19, the Sharks will compete in the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami in Miami, Fla. The Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on both days. Last season the Sharks recorded 13 top-10 finishes at the Hurricane Invitational.

Rowing
The women’s rowing team will begin its spring season at the Division II Duals in Melbourne, Fla. on March 18-19. Last season, NSU won every race it competed in which added up to eight victories during the two day regatta.
