University School of NSU Student Makes Special Olympics Her Special Cause

The Special Olympics of Broward County has a new type of champion thanks to University School student Meredith Adams. As the president and founder of the University School Special Olympics Club, Meredith mobilized students and raised nearly $2,500 to support local Special Olympics athletes in just six months.

The club’s creative fundraising included an iPad raffle, bake sale, pizza sale and participation in the Upper School Key Club and NSU’s Run with Joe Jonas to Support Special Olympics. The resulting proceeds helped all Broward County Special Olympic athletes receive new uniforms.

While making a difference is a reward in-and-of-itself, Meredith and USchool’s newest service club also recently received special acknowledgement.

First, Special Olympics of Broward Country recognized Meredith as the “Youth Volunteer of the Year Runner Up” and presented the University School Special Olympics Club with “Gold Sponsor” recognition and a trophy for its participation, dedication and contribution. Second, the Florida High School Athletic Association selected Meredith to represent the region at the state convention this fall, citing her academic, athletic, and community service achievements, as well as fulfillment of her mission and a written presentation.

Kudos to Meredith and all the USchool Special Olympics Club members!
