University School of NSU Shines at 6th AcademicFest

University School of NSU hosted the sixth in a series of AcademicFests on Friday, Mar. 9 which spotlighted its students as well as the school. The concept of AcademicFest originated from the university’s communications task force and was designed to raise awareness about NSU as a whole.

University School developed an interesting and engaging concept where attendees visited a variety of themed areas called “Acts” that showcased various “Scenes”  highlighting the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. University School students, faculty and staff were on hand to present the scenes, which included program offerings, student-prepared projects, technology-based curriculums, as well as a short “skit” by University School students which was performed entirely in Chinese.

As an “Encore,” visitors were treated to viewings of student art, and information on community service projects, cultural arts programs, athletic opportunities, Camp Nova and the Summer Scholars programs. Additionally, as they exited attendees received cookies which were prepared and decorated by University School students.

In an unexpected and exciting twist to AcademicFest, those who brought their smart phones were able to download quick response codes (QR codes) in each area they visited, leading to special messages. After correctly identifying each message, attendees were qualified to enter a drawing for a Kindle Fire electronic tablet.

Congratulations to the door prize winners:

  • Scott Colton – Museum of Art Annual Family Membership
  • Jimmy Ricci – Lunch or Dinner for 2 at Faculty Shark Club
