Undergraduate Students Attend Pre-Health Day for Career Development with Alumni and Health Professionals
About 100 undergraduate students attended NSU’s second annual Pre-Health Day, a collaborative event hosted by the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography’s Department of Biological Sciences and the Office of Career Development.
Students interested in health care professions gathered at NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus on Saturday, February 13, 2016, to hear from NSU undergraduate and graduate alumni and faculty members about their journey from students to professionals in health-related fields.
The event focused on career development, featuring 25 presentations in person and via Skype, and a book of presentation abstracts was made available. Some students also participated in mock interviews to gain experience and receive feedback from professionals.
The event featured lunch and roundtable discussions with a health care panel that included a genetic researcher, genetic counselor, Peace Corps worker, and a biomedical informatics professional. A student panel included current dental, medical, pharmacy, physical therapy, and optometry students.
The event concluded with an admissions presentation by NSU’s Health Professions Division (HPD).
