UM-NSU CARD to host Communication Supports for Problem Behavior Workshop, April 11

IssuesInAutismConferenceThe University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) will be hosting a free workshop for families and professionals who work with individuals with autism spectrum disorder on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm at the NSU Health Professions Division, in Room 2100. The workshop will be given by Pat Mirenda, Ph. D., BCBA, a Professor in the Department of Educational & Counseling Psychology and Special Education, and Director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Collaboration in Autism in British Columbia. The focus of this workshop will be on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) strategies for supporting individuals with autism spectrum disorders who engage in problem behavior. Information will be provided on the use of communication supports, examples of augmented input and output supports, and information on functional communication training using AAC. ASHA CEU’s, Behavior CE’s, and Broward County Public School teacher master points will be available for this workshop.
