UM-NSU CARD Successfully Hosts Free Workshop for Parents and Professionals
The University of Miami and Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (UM-NSU CARD) hosted a free workshop for parents and professionals on Saturday, March 14 at NSU’s Health Professions Division building. This workshop was given by Kate Ahern, M.S., a special educator and assistive technology (AT) specialist in Boston, Massachusetts. This workshop, titled Bringing Communication Home, focused on practical considerations for supporting children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder who are minimally verbal or nonverbal at home. Current, research based information and strategies on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) was discussed. There were 51 individuals who attended, all of which gave very positive reviews afterwards. This was an informative and beneficial workshop for all who attended!
