Two NSU Students Receive Highly Competitive NURSE Corps Scholarships
Two Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Nursing students were recently awarded the NURSE Corps Scholarship for their commitment to primary care, ranking NSU among the top 20 institutions nationally based on the number of awardees.
Entry-level NSU nursing students Andy Jimenez and Brandon Young received the scholarship, which enables students accepted or enrolled in a diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs (including the RN to BSN Bridge Program), to receive funding for tuition, fees and other educational costs in exchange for working at an eligible Critical Shortage Facility upon graduation.
Upon graduation, NURSE Corps Scholarship recipients work at these facilities for at least two years, earning the same competitive salary and benefits as any new hire.
“We are incredibly proud of Andy and Brandon for their achievements as nursing students and their commitment to helping close the gap in primary care nursing professionals,” said Marcella M. Rutherford, Ph.D., M.B.A., M.S.N., dean of NSU’s College of Nursing. “Having not one, but two of our students as a part of this program helps demonstrate NSU’s dedication to educating the best and the brightest in our field.”
The NURSE Corps Scholarship application process is highly competitive. The NURSE Corps received thousands of applications from more than 700 schools across the country. Less than 10 percent of the applicants received the scholarship.
