Top Undergraduates Inducted into Alpha Chi National Honor Society

NSU president George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., speaks to the more than 70 NSU undergraduate students inducted into the Alpha Chi national honor society.

More than 70 NSU undergraduate students have been inducted into the Alpha Chi national honor society for the 2011–2012 academic year. Alpha Chi recognizes the top 10 percent of juniors and seniors in each undergraduate major. The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences hosted an induction ceremony and reception at NSU on Nov. 18, to celebrate the students’ academic achievement.

The event included welcoming remarks from Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, as well as introductions by Alpha Chi faculty advisers Stephen Levitt, LL.M., associate professor in the college, and Robin Sherman, Ph.D., associate professor and associate director of the college’s Division of Math, Science, and Technology.

NSU president George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., delivered the ceremony’s keynote talk, which drew connections between the core values of the Alpha Chi honor society and the core values of the university. He was also named an honorary Alpha Chi member for his contributions to the university and the community. Levitt and Sherman then led the induction of the new undergraduate members, with each student signing the society’s constitution and reciting a pledge to uphold the principles of the society.

Following the induction ceremony, the new members joined friends, family members, faculty, and members of college and university leadership for a celebratory reception.

Since 1987, the Florida Eta chapter of Alpha Chi at NSU has inducted more than 2,000 undergraduate students to the national honor society.
