Three Optometric Residents Awarded Allergan Travel Fellowship

Casey Hamm, O.D., Tamara Mendez Romero, O.D., and Leticia Rousso, O.D., three optometric residents from NSU’s College of Optometry (NSUCO), were awarded travel fellowship grants sponsored by Allergan Eye Care to attend the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) meeting in New Orleans on October 7-10, 2015. The Academy’s Residents Day Committee evaluated the applicants by assessing their curriculum vitae, National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) scores, and an essay on: “What factors contribute to a diagnosis of dry eye? What are the elements of a comprehensive treatment plan?”

Hamm received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2011. She received her doctor of optometry degree from University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry in 2015. Currently, her area of specialty as an NSUCO optometric resident is primary care with an emphasis on ocular disease.

Mendez Romero received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in 2009. She received her doctor of optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2015. Currently, her area of specialty as an NSUCO optometric resident is primary care with an emphasis on pediatrics and binocular vision.

Rousso received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 2011. She received her doctor of optometry degree from NSUCO in 2015. Currently, her area of specialty as an NSUCO optometric resident is primary care with an emphasis on ocular disease.
