Three NSU Student-Athletes Earn SSC Honors

Three Nova Southeastern University student-athletes were chosen as their respective sport’s Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Jan. 4.

Women’s basketball player Kayla Wright and men’s swimmer Thiago Sickert each garner their second weekly conference awards, while women’s swimmer Emma Wahlstrom receives her first recognition of the season for her performance against Limestone and Florida Southern.

Thiago Sickert dominated in the pool this week winning all six races he swam in, while achieving a NCAA B-Standard time in each. Against Limestone, Sickert swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 20.55 to take the win in the men’s 50-free. He followed that with a win in the men’s 100-yard freestyle, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 45.03. On Saturday, Jan. 9, against Florida Southern, Sickert opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 3:19.32. Sickert then won the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 1:50.05. In the 100-yard freestyle, Sickert swam a NCAA B-Standard time of 45.89. He ended his week with a win in the men’s 100-yard butterfly, swimming a NCAA B-Standard time of 49.14.
