Thousands Participate in Walk Now For Autism Speaks; Team NSU raises nearly $5,000
Walk Now for Autism Speaks Broward was a huge success last weekend in spite of inclement weather. Thousands met at NSU to participate either as individuals or members of teams, in support of the efforts of Autism Speaks, the nation’s leading autism advocacy organization.
Team NSU, with 134 members, placed in the top ten this year, raising nearly $5,000. Overall, the event has raised more than $170,000 thus far for Autism Speaks.
Walk Now for Autism Speaks is a fun-filled, family-friendly event which raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism in our society. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that an average of 1 in 88 children in the US is affected by some form of autism disorder.
Beyond raising awareness about autism, participants walk to raise funds for critical scientific research on autism – one of the fastest growing developmental disorders in the nation.
