Former Shark point guard will enter her fifth season on the coaching staff.

Nova Southeastern University women’s head basketball coach LeAnn Freeland is pleased to announce the elevation of Abbie Tepe to full-time assistant, effective immediately.

Tepe, who was the team’s point guard from 2007-11 and immediately became a volunteer assistant coach following the end of her playing career, was tapped by Freeland to replace Brooklyn Kohlheim, who accepted a position at nearby Florida Atlantic. In four seasons, Tepe has helped lead the Sharks to a 96-31 overall record, two SSC regular season championships, two SSC Tournament championships, and back-to-back-to-back South Region titles, leading to the program’s first three appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight.

“I am extremely excited, proud and appreciative to accept the NSU women’s full-time assistant coaching position,” said Tepe. “I look forward to working closely with Coach Freeland, and the excellent NSU athletic department, as we strive to achieve excellence in the classroom and on the court. Go Sharks!”

“Moving Abbie into our full-time assistant position was the right decision for our program,” said Freeland. “She has had a positive impact on NSU basketball since she arrived as a student-athlete in 2007. As an athlete, she filled the record books and helped lead the program to its first ever NCAA appearance at the point guard position.”

Still to this day, she is the program’s all-time leader in assists, steals and minutes played, is third in free throws made and games played, and is one of just six 1,000-point scorers in history. She was a member of an All-Sunshine State Conference team, the SSC All-Freshman Team, and an SSC All-Tournament team.

“Upon taking the head coaching position in 2011, Abbie approached me to express her interest in helping with the team in any capacity,” said Freeland. “I was immediately impressed by her passion for NSU athletics and her sincere desire to help us shape the program into a national contender. We were fortunate to have her working with us the past four seasons first as a volunteer, then subsequently as our graduate assistant. She has been a huge part of our success the past four seasons and appreciate all the contributions she has made thus far. I am excited to announce Abbie’s well-deserved promotion to full-time assistant coach.”
