Swimming and Diving Reloads with 19-Member Recruiting Class
The Nova Southeastern University swimming and diving program looks to build on a historic 2014-15 season as 19 new recruits will be added to the upcoming roster.
The Sharks are coming off of a season in which the women’s team took home the Sunshine State Conference title, and the two sides combined for six individual NCAA National Championships as well as 18 top-three finishes at that same championship meet. All told, the program also earned 60 total All-American nods following the season.
Head coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron will add 10 male and nine female swimmers to a combined 33 returnees, which includes all four National Champions.
“The quality of student-athletes that we have coming to our program this year can be attributed to the hard work our staff puts in to find those who will fit in with our program,” said Bonewit-Cron. “We look for student-athletes who are academically sound and can compete at a level we accept. We always hope that our efforts fill the shoes of our talented outgoing seniors as well as continue the success that we had last year to continue the trend upward. This combination will contribute to our future success in years to come. We are fortunate to have 19 new Shark swimmers that will help rise our program even higher both in the water and in the classroom.”
The group of male newcomers includes three transfers and six incoming freshmen. Two transfers will be sophomores: Devon D’Augusta, from New Preston, Connecticut, and most recently Montclaire State University; and Malique Elder, who competed at LSU and hails from Dayton, Ohio. Elder posted personal bests of 20.7 (50-yard freestyle) and 45.45 (100-yard freestyle) at the 2014 SEC Championships.
