Summer’s a great time to visit NSU’s Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale! On Display: The Glackens Collection

(Shown above: Café de la Paix, Circa 1906 William Glackens. Oil on canvas. Collection of Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University; Bequest of Ira Glackens.)

When was the last time you visited NSU’s Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale? If you are an art lover, there are several exhibitions that you won’t to miss. One of the exhibitions is the Glackens Collection which features the artist’s versatile talent from 1892, when he made a living as an artist/reporter, to 1938, the year of his death, when he was internationally known as America’s Renoir.

The Collection was bequeathed to the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale in 1991 by Ira Glackens, son of William.  This encyclopedic collection boasts a wide variety of examples of Glackens’s realist style – from casual crayon sketches to a unique hand-carved wooden panel, from rare etchings to heartwarming family photographs. This exhibition celebrates the publication of a brand-new scholarly manual for the Glackens Collection. The text, written by noted art historian and curator Elizabeth Thompson Colleary, discusses in depth many of the works on display.

The Museum is located at One East Las Olas Boulevard at the corner of Andrews Avenue in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. With Shark ID or NSU affiliate card you’ll get FREE general admission to the Museum of Art except for special ticketed exhibitions.
