Students from the NSU Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine Present Research at International Meeting
The International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) held its 12th Annual Biennial International Conference October 27–30. At the event, 22 NSU students presented their original research. Benjamin Eike, a third-year student in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM) presented in the main genomic session on his study of genomic risk in ME/CFS, while Mary Jeffrey, a student in the College of Psychology, presented on a computational biology approach to identify new gender specific treatments in ME/CFS.
Twenty posters highlighting additional student research in ME/CFS included the following: COM students Stefanie Altmann, Jenna Dionisio, Kristina Gemayel, Kelly Gaunt Hilton, Derek Jones, Akarshan Monga, and Hytham Rashid; NSU Undergraduates Maria Cash, Melanie Perez, and Syed Shehzad Ali; and INIM students Sophie Chen, Shane Hills, Saurabh Vashishtha, Abhaya Moturu, Jacqueline Baikovitz Leonor Sarria, Kevin Galvez Cabezas, and Jordan Cargill.
In total, faculty members, clinical, and research staff members offered 11 presentations and 25 posters. The event was co-sponsored by NSU-COM and its NSU Institute for Neuro-Immune Medicine, as well as the NSU Division of Translational Research and Economic Development.
