Eight Students from Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Inducted into English Honor Society
Eight students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences became members of Sigma Tau Delta, the international honor society for English, during an induction ceremony and reception on Apr. 29, at NSU.
The mission of Sigma Tau Delta is to recognize both the academic excellence of students studying the English language and literature, as well as the accomplishments of professional writers. Students eligible for induction into Sigma Tau Delta are pursuing a degree in English or a related field, have a minimum 3.0 GPA in their English courses, rank in the top 35 percent of their class, and have completed at least three semesters of college work.
Undergraduates inducted this year included Gabrielo Banks, Natalie Grewal, Martin Herrera, and Meagan Thomson. Also inducted were students from the college’s Master of Arts in Writing program: Brandon Bielich, Linnette Dobbs-Fuller, Katherine Palacio, and Tara Morin. The college has inducted 28 students into the society since establishing the Alpha Nu Iota chapter at NSU in 2006.
Marlisa Santos, Ph.D., faculty adviser for Sigma Tau Delta and director of the college’s Division of Humanities, led the induction ceremony, assisted by Suzanne Ferriss, Ph.D., professor in the division. The inductees were joined by friends and family members, as well as faculty members from the college’s Division of Humanities, including Shanti Bruce, Ph.D., assistant professor and coordinator of the writing program; Christine Jackson, Ph.D., professor; and Jennifer Reem, M.S., instructor and coordinator of the communication program.
