Student-Athletes Attend Drug Free Sport Event

Nova Southeastern University student-athletes attended an educational seminar “Drug Free Sport” presented by Kathy J. Turpin, Ph.D. at the Don Taft University Center on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Turpin is the director of collegiate drug testing for Drug Free Sport and oversees the administration of drug-testing programs for Drug Free Sport’s 200+ collegiate clients across the country. She spoke to the Sharks about the dangers of over-the-counter drugs and educated them on the pitfalls of taking dangerous supplements.

“It was a very educational event that opened our eyes to many substances that can be found over-the-counter but are not legal,” said senior men’s basketball captain Teddy Tassy (Port-au-Prince, Haiti). “It showed us that many drugs look like they can help but are actually very harmful.
