Staying Green this Holiday Season

Yes, you can stay green during this holiday season. Here are some easy tips you can keep in mind to stay green, which is not only good  for the environment, but for your wallet too!

Use e-Cards: Nearly everyone will be sending holiday cards all around the country. While thoughtful, they leave a big carbon footprint: trees are cut down to make them, it costs gas for the post to deliver them, and some use inks that contain toxins. E-cards, however, don’t have any of these drawbacks. They also let you be much more thoughtful and personal with options to add photos, video, and of course, your own words. Plus, you save money on postage and envelopes.

Use a real tree: Plastic Christmas trees are petroleum-based products that cannot be recycled once the time comes to throw them away. Conversely, most municipalities will turn natural Christmas trees into mulch after the holidays.

Use alternative wrapping: Newspapers, comics, posters, old wallpaper, etc. Just about anything paper-based can be recycled as wrapping paper. Still, if you find you just need that festive touch, try to get wrapping paper made with recycled paper.

Use LEDs: Lights are everywhere this time of year. And switching to LEDs will lower your power consumption and energy costs. Set them on a timer to maximize your efficiency.

Happy Holidays!
