Special Storytimes at NSU Library include Free Foot Screenings; Visit from Firefighters

Storytime patrons at NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library recently got a special treat – free foot screenings from Mark Jaffe, DPM, and his students: Mega Margapuram, Kadian Hurlston, Luis Perez and Jessica Urrea.

Jaffe also educated parents on selecting developmentally appropriate shoes for their children (and themselves), and evaluated the shoes of many of the children to see if the shoes passed the “1-2-3 Shoe Test”:

1: Look for a stiff heel (press on both sides of the heel, it shouldn’t collapse)

2: Check toe flexibility (the shoe should bend with your child’s toes)

3: Select a shoe that’s rigid in the middle (your shoe should never twist in the middle).

Don’t miss the Alvin Sherman Library’s next special storytime – a visit from the firefighters at Davie Fire Rescue on Wednesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children will learn about fire safety and see a real fire truck. If the firefighters have to leave to respond to an emergency call, youth services librarian Meagan Albright will conduct a regular storytime and read books about firefighters.

For more information about the library’s free programs for children, teen and adults, please visit www.nova.edu/libary/main or call the Public Library Services Reference Desk at 954-262-5477.
