Many South Florida families are celebrating the recent announcement from the University of Miami – Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) and The Tire Choice regarding their partnership for a series of soccer clinics for children with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This partnership led to the development of Project CHOICE (Creating Healthy Opportunities for Interaction, Communication and Engagement) which will bring recreational activities for children with autism to Northeast Broward County. Project CHOICE has partnered with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers for a series of soccer clinics. The Strikers will support the program by coaching the 25 children between the ages of five and eleven. Siblings of the children with ASD will also have the opportunity to participate

CARD is dedicated to optimizing the potential of people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), dual sensory impairments, sensory impairments with other disabling conditions, and related disabilities. CARD services are designed to build on the capacities of state and local resources, not to duplicate or replace them. CARD provides families with resources specific to their needs. Some of the services that CARD provides include: Individualized Client and Family Support, Family and Professional Training, Public Education and Awareness and Community Outreach and Programmatic Consultation and Technical Assistance. For more information on UM-NSU CARD, please call 1-800-9-AUTISM (x1) or visit www.umcard.org.
