Six Student Athletes Earn Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar Athlete Honors

Rowing

The Nova Southeastern rowing team had six student-athletes in Ariel McAffrey, Marnie McLean, Victoria Poretti, Mikayla Shelton, Rayna Stuart and Lisette Villarreal receive Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athlete honors.

The student-athletes earned the award after finishing their fall semester with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements set by the CRCA are that the student be in their second, third or fourth year of eligibility, competed in 75 percent of the teams’ races in the NCAA events and have met all institutional eligibility requirements.

Poretti earns her third award of her Shark career, while Stuart and McLean pick up their second. As a team, the Sharks finished the winter semester with a 3.34 GPA, the highest posted in four years.

“This has been the strongest semester academically since I have been involved with the NSU program and I am incredibly proud of this group of student-athletes,” explained head coach Devin Fay. “The six represented on the national stage here, who raced in our top two boats, are merely a representation of how this team prioritizes performance on the water and in the classroom.”
