SHSS Welcomes Visiting Faculty Member



Christine Ajayi, Ph.D.



Honggang Yang, Ph.D., Dean of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) has announced the appointment of Christine Ajayi, Ph.D., to the faculty at SHSS. Ajayi has been appointed as Visiting Assistant Professor of Family Therapy in the Department Family Therapy (DFT).

Ajayi received her doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State University and holds a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She has been the Director of Counseling Services at New Mount Zion AME Church in Tallahassee and DePelchin Children’s Center, where she provided services to foster and adoptive families. She served as a marriage educator in ProjectRELATE, which received federal funding. She received extensive training on issues of cultural competence as a SAMHSA/AAMFT Minority Fellow and a Florida Education Fund McKnight Doctoral Fellow.

Ajayi’s research and teaching interests include healthy relationship processes for those at risk for high conflict and violent relationships and social justice through the provision of relevant mental health services to minority families. She is currently involved with the Program for Strengthening African American Marriages (ProSAAM) project. This research study assists African American couples in maintaining healthy relationships and has included over 400 couples.
