SHSS Welcomes New Faculty Member

Mary Hope Schwoebel, Ph.D.

Honggang Yang, Ph.D., dean of NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) has announced the appointment of Mary Hope Schwoebel, Ph.D., to the faculty at SHSS. Schwoebel has been appointed as an assistant professor in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR).

Schwoebel holds a master’s degree from the University of California in International Development and a doctorate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University. Prior to coming to NSU she spent five years in the Academy for International Conflict Management and Peace-building at the U.S. Institute of Peace. There she developed and taught in over a dozen countries overseas and in Washington, D.C. and designed and oversaw dialog initiatives in war-torn countries and wrote policy-oriented publications as a trainer, grant writer, practitioner, and researcher. She also taught classes at Georgetown University, The American University, George Mason University, and University for Peace in Costa Rica. She is the author of a wide range of publications, most recently two forthcoming book chapters and has over two decades of experience in the fields of humanitarian assistance, peace-building, governance and development.
