SHSS Students Present at the 14th Annual Conference on Intercultural Relations
Patrick Christian and Aleksandra Nesic, doctoral students in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), gave a presentation at the 14th Annual Conference on Intercultural Relations, held Mar. 14-15 in Washington, DC.
Their presentation was entitled: “Crossing Barriers of Communications and Culture in Traumatized Societies.” In the session they focused on the need for specialized training to enable personnel from government and non-government organizations to engage traumatized societies during conflict and post-conflict stability operations. They pointed out the problems and danger generated when personnel must operate across barriers of language, culture, time and psychology without the appropriate cross cultural communication training.
