SHSS Students and Alum Participate at NASPA FLA Conference and Place Third in Case Study Competition

Students from the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) participated in the Florida Conference for the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, (NASPA), NASPA Florida Drive-In held at the University of Tampa. The students are working on their master’s degrees in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS).

The Case Study Competition featured two NSU teams formed by graduate students from the College Student Affairs program, including Allison Walker, Bill Lacava, Russell Slendebroek, José Aaron Hinojosa, Jon Colon, and Nhee Vang. The team of Walker, Lavaca and Slenebroek were awarded Third Place in the competition.

Congratulations to the following:

CSA student Kelly McCarthy gave a presentation entitled: “Tweetworking: Lessons Learned from 52 Minds in 52 Weeks,” and Katie Monsour, CSA student recruited at the Undergraduate Symposium.

Jake Shilts, M.S., was recognized for his work for FL NASPA. Shilts is a graduate of the College Student Affairs (CSA) program and Practicum Coordinator for the DMS and DCAR. He is the Knowledge Community Chair for NASPA FLA, was part of the conference planning committee and  helped to plan the Undergraduate Symposium, among other responsibilities.

Josh Hammer, M.Ed., director of Student Affairs Assessment and Student Engagement for the NSU’s Student Affairs was recognized for his work for FL NASPA. Hammer is the Knowledge Community Coordinator for NASPA FLA, was on the Conference Planning Committee and presented at the Undergraduate Symposium.
