SHSS Student Presents at the IFTA World Family Therapy Conference in Panama
Sylvia Kalicinski, M.A., a doctoral student in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) presented at the 22nd International Family Therapy Association World Family Therapy Conference in Panama City, Panama. The conference theme was, “Technology, Families and Effective Therapy.” Her presentation was entitled, “#OneWorldPeaceDay: An Experiential & Systemic Approach to Working with Families and Teens Through the Use of Yoga, Meditation, Music, and Social Media.” The presentation was based on work Kalicinski did with at-risk youth in Los Angeles, California.
In addition to pursuing her doctoral degree in DFT, Kalicinski received her B.S. in Radio, Television and Film from the University of Texas at Austin and her M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacifica Graduate Institute in California, Currently she works as a functional family therapist with the Redirection Program at the Institute for Child and Family Health, serving juveniles on probation and their families. She has also started a part-time private practice for individuals, couples, and families called Mindfulness Family Solutions in Aventura, Florida.
