SHSS Student selected as NAPF Intern
Athena Passera, a doctoral student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) was selected as a paid intern during the summer at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (NAPF) in Santa Barbara, Calif. NAPF is a designated consultant to the United Nations Economic and Social Council and was named by the UN as a Peace Messenger Organization
Among her activities as an intern, Passera researched and authored a paper on the use of depleted uranium. Since appearing on the organization’s website, it has been cited by other researchers and non-profit organizations. Upon her return to NSU this fall, Passera continued as a volunteer for the Foundation and has started a local chapter. The chapter is offering the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Peace Leadership Program consisting of an eight session training being facilitated by Passera and open to students. The leadership program is designed to help train peace leaders and promote positive change.
