SHSS SGA Announces the Spirit of Community Engagement Scholar for Fall 2012
The Student Government Association (SGA) of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) has announced the selection of Kelly Macias as the Spirit of Community Engagement Scholar for Fall 2012. Macias is a doctoral student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR).
The SGA’s Spirit of Community Engagement Scholar is selected based on their work in the community. This is consistent with the Carnegie Foundation Classification of Community Engagement received by NSU for the university’s demonstrable commitment to work with the local, national and global community. Macias received a $500 award toward her academic and community engagement work. Macias’ essay entitled, “Experiences and Lessons Learned from Helping Families, Communities, and Society-at-Large,” highlighted her work with Ugandan refugees. The SGA will provide another opportunity for SHSS students to apply for the award during the winter term.
