SHSS Hosts Story Café in the Alvin Sherman Library
Community Resolution Services (CRS) in NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS,) in partnership with the SHSS SGA, hosted Story Café on March 14, 2015 at the Alvin Sherman Library.
Story Café, which was free and open to the public, engaged participants in sharing stories related to themselves and their families using narratives and any collateral materials (photographs, poems, etc.) Participants were at tables with graduate students from CRS as facilitators. After the story sharing, participants created an artifact using pieces of cloth and markers. Many traced their hands and added words, phrases and artwork. The pieces will be sown together to become a lasting memorial of the event.
Opening remarks were provided by Judith McKay, J.D., Ph.D., CRS Director and Chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies, Naz Ozaki, M.S., CRS Coordinator and doctoral candidate in the Department of Family Therapy, Sharon McIntyre, M.P.A., President of the SHSS SGA and doctoral student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Richard Toumey, M.F.A., adjunct professor in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies, and Nekeisha Gisselle Bascombe, M.S., doctoral student in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution.
