SHSS Hosts Scholar from South Africa to speak on Truth and Reconciliation
The Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution in NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), will provide a talk by Lungi Sosibo, D. Ed., titled: “Truth and Reconciliation in South Africa: Lessons we can learn.” The talk will take place from noon – 2 p.m. Thursday, January 22, in the Carl DeSantis Building (main campus,) Room 2101. All are welcome.
The presentation will provide a synopsis of the apartheid system in South Africa, the people’s struggle against the system, the collapse of the apartheid regime, as well as the truth and reconciliation (TRC) process. Sosibo will argue that although the TRC helped to prevent bloodshed in South Africa, it did not succeed in sustaining peace in the country.
Sosibo is an Associate Professor at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town, South Africa. She received her B.A. in Education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa, an M.Sc. Prior to joining the faculty at CPUT, she taught South African Cinema and Literature at UCLA. She has published extensively in the areas of Assessment, Evaluation and Accountability; and Diversity and Transformation.
