SHSS Hosts 25th Residential Institute

The Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) and the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) recently hosted the 25th Residential Institute (RI) on NSU’s main campus. During RI, students enrolled in distance learning come to campus to attend classes; meet with faculty, staff, and their colleagues; attend advising sessions; and participate in workshops, presentations and social activities.

The keynote speaker was Susan Opotow, Ph.D. Opotow is Subprogram Head and Professor for the Doctoral Program in Social Personality Psychology at the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), as well as a faculty member in the Sociology Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY) and the Doctoral Program in Criminal Justice (CUNY).  Opotow was elected president of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (2008-2009).  She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the 2008 recipient of the Morton Deutsch Conflict Resolution Award, and the 2011 recipient of the American Psychological Foundation Lynn Stuart Weiss Award.  She is Editor of Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology and Secretary of the International Society of Justice Research.
