SHSS Hosts 23rd Residential Institute, Oct. 1-5
The Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) and the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) programs in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) recently hosted the 23rd Residential Institute (RI) on NSU’s main campus. During RI, students engaged in distance learning come to campus to attend classes live; meet with faculty, staff, and their colleagues; attend advising sessions; and participate in workshops, presentations, and social activities.
The keynote speaker was Christina Merchant who co-authored Designing Conflict Management Systems: A Guide to Creating Productive and Healthy Organization, winner of the Best Book Award for 1997 by the International Association of Conflict Management. This text is used in courses in Organizational Conflict and Dispute Systems Design. She is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Public Administration and a faculty associate in the Program for Advancing Research in Conflict and Collaboration at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
