SHSS to Host Workshop Featuring Salvadore Minuchin, M.D., Feb. 25

Salvadore Minuchin, M.D.

The Brief Therapy Institute (BTI), a part of the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) will host a workshop featuring Salvadore Minuchin, M.D., on Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Maltz Building. The workshop is entitled “The Therapist as an Instrument.”

Minuchin is the founding father of Structural Family Therapy and author of countless books in the field of Family Therapy. He is one of the original voices of systemic family therapy and has been working with children and their families for over five decades. As therapist, teacher, supervisor, and mentor, he helps clinicians to further develop skills to be effective agents of change.

In 2007, a Psychotherapy Networker survey of 2,598 psychotherapists named Minuchin as one of the ten most influential therapists in the past quarter-century. His historic texts – including Families and Family Therapy, Family Therapy Techniques, and Family Kaleidoscope – are often practical, how-to-do-it guides that support clinicians in their work. Minuchin’s newest book, Assessing Families and Couples: From Symptom to System, offers a detailed four step model with case application.
