SHSS to host Narrative Therapy Workshops featuring David Epston, June 18-19

David Epston, MA, CQSW, D.Litt


The Department of Family Therapy (DFT) and the Consortium for Narrative Research and Practice in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), in collaboration with the Broward Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, will host David Epston, MA, CQSW, D.Litt, on June 18 and 19 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Maltz Building. On June 18, Epston will address, “A New Genre of Working with the Problems of Young People in their Families and Communities. “On June 19, he will demonstrate “Living a Narrative Therapy Interview.”

Epston, with the late Michael White, is a co-founder of narrative therapy.  He is the co-director of The Family Therapy Centre and teaches at the School of Community Development, Unitec Institute of Technology in Australia. He is the co-author of Biting the hand that starves you: Inspiring resistance to anorexia/bulimia (2004), Playful approaches to serious problems (1997), Narrative means to therapeutic ends (1990), and many other publications.

The Consortium for Narrative Research and Practice is a collaborative effort of the Departments of Family Therapy, Multidisciplinary Studies, and Conflict Analysis and Resolution. The Consortium is designed to provide multi-professional training and educational opportunities in the areas of clinical practice, conflict resolution, community projects, social justice, and multicultural research. The Consortium is committed to developing and maintaining partnerships with its sister schools and community agencies by providing a focal point for people to meet one another in an inclusive learning and communal context.
