SHSS to Host Genocide Conference with IGAAR on April 9-10

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) and the Institute for Genocide Awareness and Applied Research (IGAAR) will host the First Annual IGAAR Conference on Apr. 9-10 on NSU’s main campus.

The Keynote Speaker will be Gregory H. Stanton, J.D., Ph.D. Stanton served in the US State Department from 1992-1999. He drafted the UN Security Council’s resolutions that created the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Burundi Commission of Inquiry, and the Central African Arms Flow Commission. He was the recipient of the prestigious W. Averill Harriman award. From 1999-2000 he served as the co-chair of the Washington Working Group for the International Criminal Court. Stanton is the founder of Genocide Watch and the founder and chair of the International Campaign to End Genocide. He was the president (2007-2009) of the International Association of Genocide Scholars.

Stanton is the James Farmer Professor of Human Rights at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and has been a law professor at Washington and Lee University, American University, and the University of Swaziland. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Chicago.
