SHSS Faculty to Present Workshops on Workplace Communication – May 17 & 31
Judith McKay, Ph.D., director of Community Resolution Services (CRS) and chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), along with graduate practicum students will offer two free workshops on “Workplace Communication” at the Alvin Sherman Library.
On May 17, 2009, the workshop to be presented is entitled “Bullying in the Workplace.” This workshop will address such topics as identifying and understanding bullying behavior and tips and strategies to deal with bullies.
On May 31, 2009, the workshop to be presented is entitled “Managing Conflict.” This workshop will help participants understand how they experience and handle conflict as well as how other people may experience it differently. Other topics include communications skills, understanding the role of culture, and tips for handling conflict at work.
Both workshops will be held in Room 1017 in the Alvin Sherman Library from 1-3 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
Community Resolution Services (CRS) offers trainings and workshops, as well as mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching and consulting services to individuals, families, groups, and organizations to resolve conflicts on the NSU campus and out in the broader community. It is a provider of Continuing Mediation Education (CME) units. CRS is especially committed to providing access to conflict resolution services for our underserved community members and partners with many community agencies and groups.
Peace Place is one of the projects of CRS and is a unique partnership between CRS and the Broward County Library System whereby CRS provides free workshops and presentations regarding issues of peace and peace building for the public in various libraries across the county. CRS is always happy to discuss the provision of services and presentations tailored to the needs of our local communities and community groups.
