SHSS Faculty and Student Present at International Peace Research Association Conference in Japan
Daniel Karanja and Toran Hansen
Toran Hansen, Ph.D., a faculty member in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), and DCAR doctoral student Daniel Karanja presented at the 24th Conference of International Peace Research Association (IPRA) at Mie University in Japan. The theme of the conference was, “A Better World is Possible: Peace and Justice in the Globalised World.” Hansen’s presentation was entitled: “The Generalist Approach to Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies,” based on his recent book, The Generalist Approach to Conflict Resolution: A Guidebook.
Hansen’s research and teaching interests include restorative justice, social movements, social networks, and social capital.
Karanja participated in the Global Political Economy Commission at the conference as a panelist based on a recent collaborated chapter in the edited publication, “Seeds Bearing Fruit: Pan-African Peace Action for the Twenty-First Century.” Karanja provided a critical reflection on the current Kenya’s Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission proceedings.
