SHSS Faculty Presents at the 64th Center for Latin American Studies Annual Conference
Elena Bastidas, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in NSU’s Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), presented at the 64th Center for Latin American Studies Annual Conference held at the University of Florida this past March. The theme of the conference was “Envisioning a Sustainable Tropics” and her presentation was titled, “Pathways to a Sustainable Future.” It was part of a panel discussion exploring questions such as, “How to reconcile energy and resource extraction with human and environmental health?” and “How to strengthen capacity for adaptive governance at multiple scales?”
Bastidas’ research and teaching interests include Latin America and she focuses on understanding and applying principles for promoting peace and conflict resolution in sustainable development projects at the local, national and international level. Bastidas has taken students as part of the Global Practicum courses to Ecuador and Suriname, and is currently conducting research in Colombia and Paraguay.
