SHSS Faculty Member Presents at the 8th Annual Texas Diversity & Leadership Conference
Jason J. Campbell, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (DCAR) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), gave a presentation at the 8th Annual Texas Diversity & Leadership Conference held Apr. 4-6. Campbell’s presentation was entitled: “The Narrative of Social Liberation.” In his session he pointed out that the power to control and oppress the people is reinforced by strong social narratives, by myths and traditions, and ultimately by the people themselves. Thus, the process of social liberation requires an aware and attentive population, capable of critical thinking and social mobilization. Campbell also served as a panelist on “Race Relations in the 21st Century,” and “Exploring Power, Privilege and Access.”
Campbell’s teaching and research interests include genocide studies and prevention, the problem of evil, state endorsed mass extermination, international war and the theoretical understanding of exclusionary ideologies. Campbell is the executive director and founder of the Institute for Genocide Awareness and Applied Research (IGAAR).
